Partial Authorization Support

📘

Note

Partial authorization is enabled in the transaction rules as part of PayConexâ„¢ V4 API transaction request. One of the most common use cases of Partial Authorization is Healthcare Auto-Substantiation.

Partial authorization allows a Payment Processor to handle transactions where the full amount cannot be authorized. It does this by providing an approved partial amount. This feature helps merchants manage transactions when customers have insufficient funds or other constraints, thus offering flexibility in completing sales and handling payments.

Partial Authorization Handling

  • Card issuer response: If the card issuer cannot authorize the full amount due to insufficient funds or other reasons, it may approve a partial amount.
  • Authorization response: The Payment Processor receives the response from the card issuer. The response includes the partial amount that has been authorized and any remaining amount that could not be approved.

Transaction Completion

  • Partial capture: The merchant has the option to capture the partial amount authorized. The remaining amount might be handled by additional transactions or by requesting alternative payment methods from the customer.

  • Customer communication: The merchant may inform the customer about the partial authorization and any necessary steps for completing the remaining payment.

Subsequent Transactions

  • Additional captures: If the merchant chooses to capture the remaining amount later, a new authorization request can be processed for the remaining amount. Typically, this is a new transaction that covers the remaining balance or, alternatively, the customer might decide to pay the remainder in cash.
